“The North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) surveyors have completed the initial survey and their recommendation is they have found Haywood Regional Medical Center to be in compliance. The survey was conducted in a thorough, efficient and professional manner.  Their report will be compiled, reviewed by DHSR as well as CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and reported back to HRMC within ten days. After a period of reasonable assurance a full survey will be conducted.” said Alton Byers, Interim CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center.

“For the past several weeks, 12 teams have worked extensively on this corrective action plan,” said Eileen Lipham, HRMC Vice President of Professional Services. Those teams included nurses, pharmacists, physicians and other hospital employees.

Lipham led the hospital’s efforts to develop a corrective action plan.

“We have been analyzing the current processes and developing new ways to provide safe patient care. Our goal is to develop sustainable systems to deliver that care, as well as ways to effectively monitor the ongoing care that is provided at Haywood Regional,” Lipham said.

Administrators, consultants and staff will now focus their attention on the full survey.

“The success of this survey was due to the efforts of every single employee, from housekeeping to the medical staff, who came together to prepare for this. Every person has been and continues to be invaluable to this hospital’s continued success,” Lipham said.
